How To Start Your FZ SHifter Engine

- Ensure Fuel Lines are properly mounted;
- Silver fitting on bottom of pump -> Pulse Line to Engine Case.
- Black Fitting on bottom of pump -> Fuel Line From Fuel Tank.
- Black fitting on top of pump (angled fitting) -> Fuel Line to Carb.
- Fill Your Fuel Tank with Race Fuel
- Race Fuel should be VP110, Sunoco Supreme, or similar High Octane Fuel.
- Ensure Fuel is properly mixed with either XPS, Elf, Or Motul oil at 20:1 Ratio (Roughly 1 Liter / 5 Gallons).
- Prime your fuel system
- Make sure your fuel cap is properly tightened.
- Remove the Vent Line from your overflow bottle, then blow into vent line to pressurize the fuel tank and push fuel through the fuel tank and into the carburetor.
- Once you no longer see any air bubbles in the fuel line or fuel filter (should only take about 5 seconds), you can re-attach the vent line to the overflow bottle
- Pull the choke on the Carburetor
- Pull up on the black Choke on the Carb; it should click and stay in place
- Pull Up on the Shift Lever to engage 2nd Gear
- You might have to slightly rotate the rear tires while pulling up on the shift lever to properly engage the gear.
- Spin the Rear Tires by hand to fire up the engine
- It’s easiest if you slowly rotate the tire until you find top-dead-center on the Piston; you’ll feel a small, easy click, before you feel the tire get heavy with compression. You want to start your rotation with the heavy part to maximize the piston strokes.
- When the engine is cold, it can usually be started with no additional throttle input. If you’re having trouble starting by yourself, have a friend hold the throttle, but only at 5-10%; too much throttle and the engine won’t start.
- Once the engine starts
- Close the Choke circuit by pushing down on the black Choke knob
- Use the shift lever to put the engine back into neutral (small click between 1st & 2nd)
- Set the idle on the carb (small brass looking screw on the side of the carb facing the seat, you should be able to adjust it with your fingers). We do not want the engine to idle, so open (ccw) the idle screw until the engine just wants to die when you let off throttle.
